Can the Bible be Trusted if I do not Understand Everything?

  • These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. - Acts 17:11 KJV

God does not ask us to believe blindly, He says we must examine everything before believing.

Many people do not believe because they honestly do not understand. But there are also those who do not believe because they do not want to believe.

The apostle Peter warns that some biblical concepts are:

  • As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. - 2 Peter 3:16 KJV

The bible contains some concepts that are more difficult to assimilate than others, but they can be discerned through the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit. The divine promise is:

  • I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. - Psalm 32:8 KJV

Acts remind us that the Lord also uses human beings to guide His sons and daughters.

  • And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. - Acts 8:30-31 KJV
